SETX is the bread and butter of the United States’ oil, gas, and petrochemical industry. Over the next few years, the industry is expanding further. Economically, great. But for an area known as “the Cancer Belt”, that brings more pollution and more health risks for a community already struggling.
A Place Called Home dives into this downhome Cajun-Texan community and follows characters in The Golden Triangle (Beaumont, Port Arthur, Nederland, Port Neches, and Groves) as they deal with the negative health effects of living in such close proximity to cancerous emissions while remaining steadfast in their love for their toxic towns.
This documentary is as much about environmental justice and holding big industry accountable as it is about a place and our deep, varied connections to what we call home.
